The days are going by so fast now that I can't keep up. The girls only have three more weeks of school. I'm just hoping that the sun will come out for the summer. At least we got some beautiful sun last weekend. I'll tell you all about that in a minute.
First, I just realized that there are no pictures up from Tegan's birthday or Mother's day yet! I didn't even tell you how the birthday party went or anything. Let's see if I can catch up.
This girls got to go to the rollerskating rink with girl scouts. That was their bonus for all their hard work selling those cookies. We have really loved girl scouts this year. They have done so many neat things.
I think I told you about that ridiculous snow in late April. It would have been funny if Andrea and Victor had been here when it snowed.
Mike went on a trip to Orlando for a conference in April too. We missed him. The Saturday that he was gone we worked hard at the school cleaning and planting for Earth Day. Then we went to a wedding.
In May, of course, the big thing was Tegan's birthday. It all went well. We had a slumber party for her on Friday night. She wanted a princess theme so we watched Princess Bride and Enchanted. We had pizza for dinner and ice cream cake, so you really can't beat that. This was the first birthday party slumber I have had for any of the girls. It wasn't too bad...though next time I'll keep it to 5-6 girls instead of 8. Three were mine, but that was still a lot of girls.
The next day we went over to Debbie's house and helped to spread a load of bark. It was a nice day. Then that evening they watched the girls so Mike and I could go to Mike's friend's wedding reception. It was a fun and delicious affair with an ample supply of crab legs and a view! The restaurant was across the Sound from Seattle so you could see the whole Seattle skyline.
The next day was Mother's day. After getting the customary free See's chocolates at church we hung out at home and did nothing. It was great. It wasn't quite warm enough for me to sit out in my "Mother's Day" chair...the chair I bought myself "for Mother's Day" when I was in Arizona. It hasn't really been nice enough since I brought it home actually!...but someday I'll get to enjoy it. Mike made me Eggs Benedict for breakfast and he's really good at it! They bought me the beautiful tea cup planter for my garden.
Then last weekend we went camping. It was the first REAL trip in the trailer. I got to teach Mike how it all works. We set up and enjoyed our campsite, but noticed there was a group with a lot of alcohol sitting out...we should have gone with our gut feeling and left, but instead, at 1:00 in the morning we were still awake listening to blaring music, talking, AND an ATV driving in and out of the campground. When they finally quieted Anika and Tegan started coughing. They must have either had a cold or allergies. Anyway, Mike was not able to sleep at all and was none too happy about it.
The next day we took it easy and visted the rocky beach for awhile. The girls wanted to swim so bad they could hardly handle it. They are just dying to get in some water this year. Usually they've been out in the sprinkler a ton by this time of year. First we drove up the mountain looking for a place to hike, but just found a cute picture spot instead. It was so warm that weekend that the snow was melting and created a bunch of little waterfalls.
After lunch Mike took a nap while me and the girls played by the water. Well, I read by the water, but they played until their little legs were bright red (not from sun, but from the coldness of that water!)
About 4:00 that afternoon we decided to pack up the trailer and move to a different camp ground (the partiers hadn't left yet and had gone for an alcohol run returning with cases of beer). We wanted to test how hard it was to pack up and move the trailer anyway. It wasn't bad. Problem was that when we got to the campground, we found it was closed. There were no open sites anywhere so we had three disappointed girls. We couldn't decide whether to seek out a new spot or take them home. We eventually found a spot at a quaint RV park that had a playground. It was a well manicured place with lots of RV's and nice people...but that's about it. We set up camp and had dinner and went to bed. Then the girls started coughing again. At midnight Mike got up, took Anika, and went 45 minutes home to sleep! He couldn't sleep again because of the coughing so that was the best solution. He came back up and got me, Kelby and Tegan in the morning. It was a crazy camping weekend.
Bad as it was, we are trying again this weekend! Hopefully it is a less rowdy weekend (although it is Memorial Day weekend). We're hoping their will at least be more rangers out.
I bought a pool for the girls this week. They had today off of school so I set it up. It wasn't really warm enough but they had to get in and try it. It should keep them busy this summer. It is up by the house on the concrete so we don't have to ruin any grass. We'll see how it works. We are looking forward to and praying for some sun.
Mike's cousin Nathaniel is at Children's hospital right now. He is having a bypass surgery on his heart at age 7. This have never been done before, so we are praying for him. Please pray for him too. He came out of surgery okay, but pray that it fixes the problem. It is all very serious.
We all know though that God can do miracles! Kelby got to go to the "survival clinic" at Childrens last week. I hadn't really thought anything about it before hand, but once there I found it was really neat to be on that side of things! It was a real mile stone. She is three years in remission at the end of the school year. What a miracle. Weird thing is...the oral surgeon that will be extracting her teeth this summer will be the same one that did the very first biopsy on her jaw when she was 18 months old.
If only I could write once a week, these stupid updates wouldn't be so long. I might have to try that. Loves to you all.
