Just a few days into our summer break Anika got a fever. We were supposed to take some girl scouts hiking, but had to cancel so we didn’t spread germs. She didn’t feel too bad though, so we decided to go on a little walk on our own, so we went to scope out a new area. Little Mountain has a great view of our valley.
Tegan was in a basketball camp all that first week of break. She loved it. We think she’ll be a good basketball player some day…like her aunty Drea.
We had Kelby’s birthday party coming up on that Friday. She wanted an owl theme. We made these cute cake pops. It was fun making them together.
Kelby drew a little drawing of an owl, so we turned it into her cake decoration. It turned out so cute.
We made these adorable owl balls too.
Here’s the happy owl fan. We had two girls overnight and watched an owly movie.
On Saturday Anika got to go to a friend’s birthday party at the pony farm. Lucky girl!
On Kelby’s real birthday we went out to lunch at the new Panda Express. We enjoy their Orange Chicken.
Then, even though the weather wasn’t that great, we went to Lake Padden to play.
Then family came over for cheese cake and ice cream to celebrate that evening.
Tegan is a big fan of the new baby. She can get him to relax.
The very next day we packed up and took my older Girl Scout Troop camping. We went to the grocery store first so they could buy their supplies.
They had to get their tents set up…they did a good job of getting that done on their own!
Once our camp was set, we made lunch and hiked down to the river where they found a nice sandy “beach”. They all played and played there and had a great time.
They all did a lot of the work of prepping for and cooking dinner. Then for our snack we had a taste test of a variety of s’more type snacks. The winner was a softened caramel between two Ritz crackers.
After sleeping on the ground I needed a great cup of coffee with my breakfast.
We played at the beach again after taking down our camp.
That night we went to the All Comers Track Meet. I ran a couple races. That was my first time running on a track since high school gym class! I broke a couple records in my age group which was pretty fun. The girls did well too…at least Anika and Tegan. Kelby didn’t want to join us.
Mike got recruited by these boys to run on their relay team!
On Monday, the Fourth of July, we got up and went to the Loggerodeo Foot Race, but this year I ran too! We all did. Mike and the girls ran the 2 mile race. Mike was the 6th runner overall. He was fast! I ran the 5.17 mile race. It was HOT out and I wasn’t used to that, but I managed to get it done at a 9:30 pace which was really fast for me! Then we went to the parade.
After a relaxing afternoon, our neighbors gathered and had a little block party. We brought out the BBQ and shared side dishes and dessert. Everyone brought their fireworks so it was a blast! LOL…pun intended!
Otherwise, this is what the girls have been up to. They have all the neighbor kids over every day and play in the pool or on the trampoline. The weather has gottn over 70 a few times, so I did fill up the pool. It is amazing how they’ll play in that thing!
We did the All Comers track meet again this week. I beat the record in my age group for the 2 mile this week! I did it at an 8:45 pace which was really good for me. For my long run this week I am up to 10 miles. I ran it early this morning. I can’t believe I can do that! Guess I’ll have to run a half marathon this September.
Next week is our Girl Scout Twilight Camp, so that will keep us busy. We’ll be there from 1:00 to 7:30 everyday all week. The girls will get to do archery, swimming, crafts, and outdoor skills. I am the outdoor skills teacher. We will be able to stay over night one night too. Should be a blast!
Hope everyone is having a great summer like us…Love to you all!
