I know, I know. I am in big trouble. It has been two months since I posted. I don’t even have a ton of pictures to share…I’ve been too busy to take any I guess. I thought that January and February would be more calm, but I filled that time right up.
Here are the girls at a skating birthday party early in January. They always love skating. I didn’t get any pictures of Tegan…she’s too fast on her skates.
Then, there was some snow for a whole week. The girls got an extra week off of school, but they’ll have to make up two days of it at the end of the school year. Mike wasn’t here for it…He was in Utah. We stayed home the whole time and I got a little stir crazy.
The snowman has an umbrella because it was raining!
On President’s Day Mike took Tegan snowboarding. When the kids are in 5th grade, the resort gives kids a free ski pass. Mike took Kelby when she was in 5th grade, so Tegan got her turn…and had a great time. Her dad did not like snowboarding very much.
The school had an evening family event where you get to go and play with a bunch of fun and interesting toys. We had fun and bought a couple toys for ourselves.
My niece, Emma, turned 13! These kids are growing up and I don’t like it!
Mike and I ran in the “Two for the Road” 5k race. I ran my fastest time ever! We didn’t get a place or anything, but I was proud of myself. It was our Valentines “date”. Three point one miles in 27:12!
That night I went to a Murder Mystery dinner at Cascade Middle School as a fundraiser for Kelby’s band. I brought all these friends, so it was a blast!
Mike turned 37 and had a boring birthday. He likes it like that. I made him a yummy dinner like Alice Springs chicken from Outback Steakhouse and a cake.
I had organized an event for our Girl Scout service unit called “World Thinking Day”. Last weekend we went to the middle school and each troop set up their display about the country they chose. It was like a science fair, but with countries. Everyone had crafts and food to taste from their country. The event ended up going really well!
I made this flannel graph display for a ceremony that we did.
Here’s Tegan making a gingerbread house with her class.
And now we are full into Girl Scout cookies season, so we are at the stores selling our cookies! If you want some, let us know.
So, all of that is the fun stuff, but the busy stuff is things you can’t see in photos.
I designed and started writing for a new website called “Public on Purpose”. It is for Christian families with their kids in public school. Stop by www.publiconpurpose.com to see it! A lot of friends are reading it and we hope that others around the country will share it too.
Of course, no sooner do I start a website about public schooling, do I decide to pull out Tegan and homeschool her for the rest of the year! I realized last week that we were getting no where with the teacher and principal and it was time that I helped Tegan myself. She is missing key parts of 5th grade math in that class. Her teacher was trying to homeschool 30 students and that is why it wasn’t working. She is a nice lady and cares about the kids, but she was not giving me any communication or information about how Tegan was doing or what she was learning.
Anyway, now I am trying to figure out how to do homeschool. I think it will be a lot of fun and I have gotten some resources from the homeschool partnership with the Mt. Vernon school district and my homeschooling friends. It will be hard, but it will be worth it.
Just before making that decision, I accepted another mini-job running the children’s church! That is supposed to be 5 hours per week. I’m excited about it. I love serving the kids this way, but I hope I can balance homeschooling and all of that!
I am also in charge of another event for our Girl Scout service unit coming up. It is a She and Me Encamporee…that now has 80 people signed up to attend. I hope that I can figure that one out! I’m stressed out about it a little.
So, think of me…when you say your prayers! It will be a season of busyness. Yikes!
Love you all!
