It has been a busy, yet boring few weeks for us, if that is possible. That is until this week anyway.
Mike’s Birthday
Mike had his birthday at the end of February, but we didn’t do anything too fancy for his birthday party. He wouldn’t let me get him a present or let me take his picture with his cake! The only special thing I got to do was to make him Apple Fritters for breakfast. That was a fun and unexpected treat.
Since it was a half-day for the girls, Mike took Kelby up to go skiing that day. Since she is in fifth grade this year, she gets a free ski pass. We figured that Mike could take each girl when they are in fifth grade. Kelby LOVED it. I guess she did pretty good too.
Book Character Day
The girls had Book Character Day on the last day of February. They didn’t think about dressing up until the night before, so we did what we could. Tegan was from Little House on the Prairie…either Laura or Carrie. Kelby was a Kale from Dragon Spell, a book we read together. Anika was, of course, the lion Aslan from Chronicles of Narnia. I think each girl got away with being a lion at least once now.
Cookie Sales
I have done three site sales now with the girls. Each girl got to do one on her own with me. That worked out so much better than to have them all three at each one. I think we’ve sold our personal goal for each girl! Sixty boxes each.
The troop did GREAT and it looks like we’ll have about $1000 or more to use for great stuff. They want to go to Build-a-bear, so I think I’ll make sure we earn a “Penny Cents” badge for doing that. We also want to plan a “camping vacation” and I think we’ll be able to do something else too!
School Work
We’ve had some more trouble with the school. Kelby’s really struggling in math, so we’ve had to get extra diligent with her at home. Mike wrote to the teacher and she arranged for us to have an appointment to meet with all the fifth grade teachers and the principal. However, it was 2 weeks away from his request, so we’ve had a long time to wait and think about it.
I’m glad that Mike is taking up the cause now. Perhaps his being involved will be more effective. He built a survey for parents in Sedro-Woolley to take so we could see what everyone is feeling about communication and other things. He posted it on a new blog he created at www.swparents.blogspot.com. There are lots of other parents that are concerned like us.
Missoula Children’s Theater
Once again, the school’s parent group brought in the Missoula Children’s Theater to put on a play in a week. Kelby and Tegan tried out on Monday and both made it into the play. They have been working hard all week to learn their parts.
These plays are amazing. They have several kinds of parts, so lots of kids can be involved. Some are really easy with just a song. Some have lots of speaking parts. Kelby and Tegan have parts that have lots of songs and a one-liner each.
On Thursday and Friday they were at school from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm! I keep expecting them to be pooped or bored with it, but they both LOVE it!
Saturday they had a dress rehearsal and two shows. They did great.
Calling 911
Now, this was big time scary for me. Mike has been feeling weird and tired lately. He was watching a movie on Thursday night and then got up to go to bed. I guess he was not feeling right. I was upstairs, so he called out to me and I ran downstairs. I found him on the floor of the bathroom. He was awake, but he was delirious. I didn’t know what to do. He stood up and then he fell hard, totally unconscious. He hit the wall this his face. I freaked out at that point. I ran to find a phone and kept trying to dial 911. My fingers wouldn’t work to do it. I heard a crash and found that Mike had gotten up again and passed out again, knocking over a bunch of chairs and hitting the kitchen floor.
Finally I got through to 911 and they sent out two ambulances, but of course, he was fine by the time they got here. They checked his heart and all seemed well. I was still so nervous, but he did fine.
We visited the doctor on Friday morning and he didn’t seem to be too worried about Mike. He said to keep and eye on things, but that it didn’t point to anything “bad” as far as he could see. So, here’s hoping. He’s still feeling a little off, but making it fine through the day.
The doctor thinks that his “off” feeling could be that he was in peak physical condition in November and now he is doing nothing because of his knee. Now he’s just feeling like the rest of us without all those extra endorphins. I’m not sure I buy that, but I’m also trying not to be too worried.
Daffodils
The bulbs are blooming early this year. While the older girls were at rehearsal, Mike, Anika and I went out to find some daffodils to take some pictures. We went out to lunch in LaConner. It was a beautiful Saturday for a drive.
Busy, Busy, Busy
There is so many things that I want to get done these days. I don’t seem to get to it all. I am working on a new website. This one I am getting paid a small amount to do at least. I just enjoy working on websites so much because it is like a puzzle to me. It is a fun challenge, but it takes a lot of time. I am toying with the idea of doing it as a small business. Hmmm….could I do it? Probably not and have any of free time. Why do I always try to find new things to fill my time with?
Tooth & Doctors
Well, we didn’t end up having Kelby’s tooth pulled after all. We’ll wait until later to do it. It was scheduled for Monday on the same day as her audition for the play. I decided that having a tooth pulled was not a good way to start her first audition.
Monday, March 15th is a check up at Children’s. We’ll be seeing Kelby’s oncologist. We haven’t seen her in a while. I’m sure it will go well.
