It has been a long time since I last wrote. I’ve been thinking about my blog and I’m starting to get worried about what I put out there for the rest of the world to read. As the girls start getting older and their friends are using the web, I’m thinking there is a lot on my blog that could be used by friends and foe against them. Their whole lives are laid out there.
I’m torn because I love writing this blog and it is for my own benefit as much as anyone else’s. I need to document our lives. I have such a bad memory that I feel like this is the only way to keep track of it. It is also the only way I’m able to “scrapbook” these days. So this has led me to the decision to make the blog private. That means that readers will have to be invited by me. Although, I believe it will still let me pull it into Facebook for just my “friends”. I’m happy to invite any family and friends, but it is time to limit ours lives from the whole world.
At the same time, I may begin to add more to a different blog that is not as personal….where I can share “how to’s” and other little tidbits I learn through life. I’ll let you know when I do that. I have a number of other blogs that I write on occasionally already.
April
I feel like I’ve been going non-stop since we got home from our Spring Break vacation. However, things should be somewhat easier in the coming weeks as we count down to the end of the school year. There are a lot of fun Girl Scout things coming up that will be fun-busy.
Our Girl Scout troop visited the Fire and Police departments at our first April meeting. I had a great time seeing the departments myself and the fire fighters and officers were very nice to the the girls. The policeman “arrested” one of my girls and then put all the loudest ones in the back of the patrol car…so it would be much quieter.
The weekend after going to Arizona we had our Chocolate Boutique event at church for our ladies. It was a “retreat” of sorts. It was a Friday night and all day Saturday event. It ended up being so much fun to see how the extravagance of chocolate could relate to the extravagant gift of God’s love and grace. The ladies all had a great time. I was helping to coordinate it, so it was a lot of work for me. I'm glad it turned out so well.
Mike took the girls sledding the day that Saturday. He is such a good daddy! They really had a good time and the weather was perfect.
After the busyness of church was done, I had planned to spend two weeks super spring cleaning our house. That turned into 3-4 weeks of cleaning. I did one room at a time and had to stop to fit some real life in, so that is why it took longer than I thought. I took before and after pictures of the girl’s rooms, but they won’t let me post them. I even had a garage sale when I was all done.
We enjoyed a little bit of the local Tulipfest in April. Tegan was chosen from the audience to participate with a magician at the street festival. I enjoyed shopping there and even got myself a “pocket kite” that doesn’t require sticks at all. Cool!
Of course we also made it out into the fields for some family pictures.
I can’t remember what else we did at the end of April. Time just goes by too fast these days.
May
The first week of May is always very busy for me. I’m usually buying or making mother’s day gifts, preparing for Tegan’s birthday and doing something for Teacher Appreciation week. We also had a special tea party for ladies at church. So, it was just a little bit crazy there for awhile.

Tegan turned nine on May 8. We got to go to a Girl Scout Science workshop in the morning and then had family over for a barbeque for dinner. I tried making apple fritters again for the special birthday breakfast. I haven’t gotten that figured out completely yet because they don’t always get done in the middle. The small ones tasted good though!
Tegan wanted a Dragon birthday, so I tried to come up with some fun dragony things to do. I’m especially proud of this cake. I’m not very skilled at cakes, so this was a real success for me. She was so sad when we had to cut it to eat it!
I made a “Dragon Quest” for the girls and they went around the yard finding dragon eggs until they found all the pieces to the map for a buried treasure. I think they had a good time. I was especially proud of my rhyming clues. We also made cute beaded dragons too.
She had a great birthday and then her friend Alaina got to stay overnight.
The next day was Mother’s Day. Mike made me home-made Eggs Benedict for breakfast, my favorite!Finally all my hard work was done and I just got to take a break. I could barely stay awake, so after a family visit to Mike’s parents house, we came home and I crashed. I think my body just knew it had been running on fumes and when it knew the work was done, it was done. We had so much leftovers from Tegan’s birthday that at least I didn’t have to worry about dinner.
Girl Scouts
Since then, it’s pretty much been Girl Scouts on the brain. My older Girl Scouts are working on a sewing and a horse fan badge and the younger girls did a puppet badge and completed a service project. I have been trying to fit in as much stuff as we can before the end of the year. We get to go to Buildabear as a troop next week and to camp the first weekend in June. I had a training thing for Girl Scouts last weekend and again tomorrow. But after tomorrow I’ll be officially able to take our troop camping in tents anywhere I want. I actually really enjoy the training because I learn a lot about how to work with the girls, but it has been hard to have so many weekends taken up for it. This will be the last major class I need to take though.

The Junior’s 5th grade math teacher invited us to her house for one of our Girl Scout meetings to meet her goats and horses. They loved that! I need to have more fieldtrips and guest speakers because they love it and I don’t have to do so much work.
I still love being a Girl Scout leader. It has me a little busy, but it is fun. I think the girls are really enjoying it this year.
Only 3 1/2 weeks until school is out, so we are counting down! I hope that summer will allow us to slow up a bit. It will be camping season though! Can’t wait!
