The month of August went by so fast.We were home two days, gone for three it seems for the whole month. After our fun church campout weekend, we came home and then turned around to leave about two days later. This time we headed toward Idaho and Silverwood Theme Park. On Thursday August 11, we drove to Spokane and then went north and stayed at a KOA in the middle of nowhere near the border. It was a nice place with a large outdoor pool. The girls enjoyed that of course. On Friday we got up and drove to the theme park. We started right in with this scary ride. It was a tall one with a free fall drop. SCREAMED all the way down.

We rode on a couple other rollercoasters, but my body is starting to not like things like that. Tegan and Mike went on a scary one that even I didn’t want to go on. This particular theme park has a dry side and a wet side, so after a few more rides, we stripped down to our swimsuits and got wet! Everyone’s a big fan of the wave pools.
We spent the majority of the day there and enjoyed a lazy river tubing experience and some great waterslides. We all had a blast. They close down the wet side early, so when they kicked us out of there we found some dinner and rode a few more rides into the night.
The next day was Saturday and the KOA had a bunch of fun activities planned, so we joined in. We played the scavenger hunt and relay games and even hula hooped. Later we played bingo and had ice cream Sundays. In the evening they had marshmallows to roast at a group campfire. We enjoyed all the fun that someone else planned!
The campground had a great family lodge with pool, ping pong, and foosball.

Then we packed up and headed home on Sunday afternoon. I had two nights before turning around and taking the girls on our mommy and me campout. The worst part of that was that the washing machine was broken…so I spent all day Monday morning tearing it apart. Glad to say that I figured it out! Mike had to reattach a hose for me, but otherwise I fixed it. Apparently a pair of underwear slipped past and got stuck in filter!
We had reserved our favorite campsite at Deception Pass for our Mommy and Me Bible Camp. It has a log! Yes, they love the campsites with a log. But this one is special. The log forms a walkway into the woods and there is a big rock back there to climb on creating a special secret hide away. I even fancy it!
Our theme for this year’s camp was “Run for the Prize”. I talked about our Christian walk being like a race. There are lots of Bible verses about it. So, I shared what I’d learned from running and how it applies.

We played at the lake/ocean. It was pretty chilly out, but they played hard anyway. The lake was the warmer part.

At night we had time to color and draw in our journal.
The beach on the lake is really sandy, so the girls spent the whole second day building things in the sand.

We also had a couple campfires. The last night we made campfire apple pies.
After all that fun, by Friday I was pretty pooped. I had two days to recuperate from the fun before more fun. After church on Sunday we got to take the girls over to Gramma and Grampa Wrights house to leave them for a couple days for our fourteenth anniversary.
We went to buy me a new bike and then went on a bike ride. The next day we went to Anacortes to leave for our whale watching tour. I had gotten the tickets cheap by Groupon this spring. It was a perfect activity for our anniversary, but that day choose to be icky and rainy. The boat was covered and had nice tables for eating and playing Suduko on the way to the whales.
Mike tried and tried to get a good picture. He got some, but wished for more light.
We are still a cute couple after all these years maybe cuter…more in love every day.
For fun over our anniversary break from the kids Mike and I had a Harry Potter Marathon. We watched the last 4 movies on DVD, then went to the latest and final movie in IMAX 3D in the theater. Fun!
With the girls back we had only 1 more week before school started to finish our school shopping and get hair cuts.
We had just enough time to fit in our 3rd annual Skat Bus ride. Don’t ask me why, but they love the public transit. Of course, it could be that we go to the mall and hang out and have lunch out. We found outfits for everyone’s first day.
Then on one day that we had just hanging out at home, this is what the girls built in my living room. The weather was not too warm, and the pool had turned green, so I emptied it, so I guess they had to get creative. I would have filled the pool up again, but it wasn’t warm enough.
The Salmon are running, so Kelby wanted to go fishing. Mike took her early in the morning and she caught three good ones. Funny thing is she doesn’t much like to eat it. We took it over to Aunty Heather’s new house and they invited the whole family and had a salmon party! Just like the Indians would have done it I suppose. These are the cooked fish. Very tasty!
Mike was already gone by then to Las Vegas for a techy geeky conference that he always goes to. The way things line up, he has to miss the first day of school. So sad. Plus that means I have to take the pictures myself. I managed okay, but Mike’s would have been better. They looked so cute this year.
I had to get Kelby to her school by 7:30 am. She loved her teachers and the new school. She likes her teachers and the freedom they have this year. Some of the teachers let the kids chew gum. On Thursday she rode her bike to school and home by herself. She loved the freedom in that. It is a little weird for me, but she seems to be doing well with it.
Anika started out in a 1st/2nd grade split class, but we didn’t think she would be challenged enough there since she is a smart 2nd grader…so we asked to have her change classrooms. She is now in a regular 2nd grade class.
Tegan is in a 5th/6th grade split class, but since she is 5th grader, I think she will do just fine. She likes her teacher.
More exciting things have happened, but I will wait for another post for those. There are just too many great pictures to share. Needless to say, our August was full and went by fast.
