On Wednesday Kelby had a friend over and I tried to get some Girl Scout stuff planned for Twilight Camp in two weeks. That was harder to prepare for than I thought. Teaching outdoor skills to all those age groups is tricky. I think I’ve got a plan now anyway.
On Thursday I had to take Kelby down to Children’s Dental for a check up on the site where they pulled her tooth out last month. They want to make sure it heals up nice because there is a risk that the bone won’t heal due to the radiation she had there. They thought it looked good, but want to see us again in three months.
On Friday afternoon we had planned to have a little birthday celebration for Naomi and Kelby with all the cousins. We wanted to meet at the church pool, but it ended up being closed for a chemical treatment. We met at the spray park instead. They played and played together and we had a delicious “smores brownie cake” and some ice cream treats.
Kelby got some fun stuff from her aunties. She even got a sliver horse necklace to go with the horse earrings that Gramma Dee Dee sent.
On Saturday the weather was still icky. Kelby got to go on her Gramma Date with Gramma Debbie. They love that present. They do lunch and go shopping together.
Anika helped to start making my Flag Cake for the next day. She even used a knife to cut the strawberries for me.
That evening we went to our friends' house for dinner and poker plus fireworks. It was a a perfect party! We had mexican potluck and then she had a babysitter come over to watch the kids. The grown ups played poker. Fun! (I think I played pretty well, though I didn’t win.) They have a super cool tree house at their place and the only bummer of the night was when a little guy fell and hurt his foot. His parents took him to the ER and they found out it was a sprain. We thought it could be broken. Poor guy!
Then it was time for a fire and fireworks! We had a great time. I love being invited over to friends' houses! Thank you! The kids had a great time too!
On Sunday morning, we had to miss church and go to the Sedro-Woolley Foot Race...a 4th of July tradition. Everyone “ran”. I walked with Anika, but the other girls ran the best they could. Tegan ran into a new friend that she met at the soccer VBS, so she was so excited and just meandered with her.
Then we went to the two hour parade. Luckily we had found our seats before the race, because there wasn’t much room. The kids caught a ton of candy. We were freezing and covered up in blankets the whole time. After the parade we came home and finished getting ready to have some neighbors over. Just in time for the party, it started to really rain. We pulled our BBQ out into the front yard anyway and put the food up on the porch. After making some coffee and hot water for cocoa to warm everyone up, things looked better. We brought our fire bowl out into the front yard and then it was a party!
I have been wanting to make this Flag Cake for years! It is always in the magazines this time of year. This was a very tasty version with cream cheese mixed in with the whipped cream. Yum!
This morning was really yucky weather outside. We had hoped to go hiking since Mike had the day off, but instead we watched a Shirley Temple movie, Heidi. Then later we watched Flicka 2. By the time that was done, the sun came out. Rumor has it that the sun is here to stay for at least a week, so YEAH!
Our goal for this week is to visit a park in Bellingham and get my shopping done for Twilight Camp. I also want to try thrift store shopping and even garage sales to start finding back-to-school clothes for the girls. We’ve had some great success and fun shopping thrift stores together.
Hope everyone had a great 4th!
