So, we headed into a short week of school feeling somewhat better. Then, on Wednesday morning Anika got up with big tonsils. She didn’t have a sore throat or a fever, so I sent her to school. They only had a half day and when she got home I took her temperature and, sure enough, she had a fever. Since this was her third sickness in a month, I decided I needed to get her into the doctor. He took a swab and found out she had strep, so she got on antibiotics right away. I think we caught it early because she didn’t even really get a painful throat.
That was the night before Thanksgiving, so we had to opt out of the family dinner at Mike’s parents house because she would be contagious for another 24-48 hours. Luckily I had put a turkey in the fridge a couple days before, so we were able to have our own Thanksgiving dinner. Mike cooked the turkey and mashed potatoes for us. I didn’t have enough energy to do it all, but I did make a pumpkin pie, a pecan pie, our traditional jello salad, and a green bean casserole…oh yes…and even rolls! It was a beautiful dinner, but we missed the extended family and playing games. We watched a Toy Story Marathon all day. Turns out the other cousins didn’t get to go to the party either…they were ALL sick! They had fevers and one had strep throat too.
It snowed all morning that day, so Kelby and Anika played and played in it. Tegan didn’t get to as much because she was on crutches. Sadly, it turned into rain the next day. Mike got these shots in the nice light. I think they might be my “school pictures” for the year.
I wasn’t feeling great still. I was just exhausted. I didn’t even have enough energy to go out and do my Black Friday shopping like I usually do. That day I just sat around and watched Hallmark Christmas movies. I guess we also pulled out the Christmas tree and got it decorated!
On Saturday we went up to Buildabear. I had fifty dollars in gift certificates that I needed to use before the end of the month. We had earned them when we had our Girl Scout party up there, so the troop decided that we could make up a few bears to donate to some toy collections for the holidays. While we were up there Mike decided to use a $10 gift card he had been carrying around since last Christmas to get a monkey. He named it Shenanigans. It is cute, but not as cute as my dragon, Elliot.
I started a project of moving/cleaning the girls’ bedrooms around. We were given a free queen size bed. So, Kelby got rid of her loft bed and got Anika’s bed. Anika got Tegan’s bunk beds, and Tegan got the queen. It was a great opportunity to clean out their rooms and organize a bit.
I’m getting prepared for the busy Christmas season coming up. Even though there is a lot to do, I also slow down often during this time to just enjoy the treat, a warm drink, and the “fireplace”. (You know, it is just a fireplace video on the TV, but I still love the cozy ambience!)
Hope you are all ready and enjoying the season too!
Much love and hugs,
~ Shawna
