When I finally took the top bandage off Kelby's incision for her yesterday, I couldn't believe that her incision was about 2 1/2 inches long! I thought by the way she was acting that it would be a little tiny cut. I am amazed that it only took one dose of regular Tylenol for her to get over that pain!
We had a good relaxing week after the surgery. We didn't do too much besides our normal shopping trips. On Friday the doctor called to update us on what information she had. Kelby's tumor was neuroblastoma. We still don't have results on the bone marrow biopsies yet. Apparently the radiologist agreed that he could do radiation for her. I was surprised that we would still need to do that because they removed the whole tumor, but Dr. Park said that it might be in the surrounding area. Mike and I will be talking over our options with Dr. Park on Wednesday by phone conference.
Kelby's "Puppy Party" was yesterday. We had the family over after church for hot dogs. Kelby loves to pretend to be a puppy, so I suggested the theme and she was excited. I made puppy ear ponytail holders for all the girls and painted their faces when they got here. The tent was up in the backyard for the "dog house". They made "collars" out of candy beads, then we all ate hot dogs for lunch. The cakes were puppy paws. Kelby knew that it wasn't her real birthday so she reminded us "when I get up tomorrow, be sure you say happy birthday to me!" We saved some presents for today and we'll probably go out to Red Robin for dinner to make it special.
I don't like making huge birthday parties for her anymore because I couldn't keep it up for the other girls too. Plus, making it a big deal is like saying, "this might be her last birthday" and I don't want to say that. This was a simple and fun birthday for her, just like anyone else might have. She is going to have one friend spend the night this Friday.
I'll let you know what we decide to do after our conference on Wednesday. Please keep praying.
