Wow, today was one of the best experiences we've had a Children's. Maybe being prepared for the worst helps it to go smoother. Mike and I drove down to the hospital separately this morning. Kelby and Mike got there at 10:00 and once I got there, things kept moving along and she was asleep and off to surgery by 11:30. That is lightning timing by Children's standards.
For an hour and a half Mike and I wandered the hospital while Kelby was with the surgeon. When he came to talk to us, he said they got it all out and it was well contained in the lymph node. It looked like the lymph node was taken over by tumor cells and their quick test confirmed it was cancer. They will look at it closer to make sure it is neuroblastoma. To us it was still good news because...it's gone! I guess I feel like we can take a good deep breath for now.
We were prepared to stay overnight, but we didn't have to as it turns out. They admitted her after surgery, but reversed it so we could go home. She was feeling good and there wasn't much they could do for her there anyway. She can lift her arm fine and doesn't seem to be in much pain.
It didn't look like we were going to be able to get an ultrasound, but at the last minute they fit her in. The ultrasound technician seemed to think that things looked normal in her abdomen, but had to let the doctors look at the pictures. Dr. Park had said that the ultrasound may not be able to tell us anything and unless we hear anything different I think that may be the case. I'm just happy that it wasn't bad news! No news is good news.
We got home and put Kelby down to bed with a healthy dose of Tylenol. She seems to be doing well. I'm thankful because it is her birthday on Monday and I bet she's her old self by then.
I'm not going to venture any guesses on the future. Once we talk to her doctor we may know a little more, but right now I feel much more comfortable than I did yesterday. Thank you for all your prayers. They must be what helped our day run so smoothly.
Prayer of Thanksgiving
My Dear Lord,
Thank you for all the blessings you have given to our family. Thank you Lord for providing for us financially. We always seem to have just what we need when we need it. Thank you for giving Kelby such peace and strength to go through all she has to go through. Thank you for the family we have to support us and to help take care of Tegan and Anika. Thank you that Kelby isn't suffering any pain, even from her surgery.
You are an awesome, powerful God that loves this little family. We appreciate every good thing that You have given us and want to honor You with the glory. We are nothing and You are everything.
Please, Lord, continue to heal Kelby. Help me to be a good example to my daughters and teach them about You. Please heal hearts of anyone that is reading our updates. If any one is in need, please touch their hearts and heal bitterness, anger, and pain.
Thank you for your grace though none of us is worthy. You love us so much. I can never love you enough to pay you back for your forgiveness. Please help me to do my best to live a life that honors you.
I love you and worship you Lord. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
