An Interesting Online Article

This is an interesting article I found online. It is about how the American Cancer Society doesn't actually give much to childhood cancer research. You can read the whole article here:Child’s cancer fuels mission to help kids by Elizabeth and Bill Lane

The part that got me the most was where they talked about what it is like to wait and wonder if your child would relapse.

"Today, Morgan is a normal 2½-year-old girl who loves to play in the sand, water the flowers, sing countless songs and dance. Although Morgan is a thriving little girl, her chance of relapse does exist.

Our treatment options would be limited if that were to happen. Waiting for the days to go by, the percentage of relapse rate to go down, and trying to resume a “normal” life is almost like sitting Morgan down in the middle of a street and praying that a car will not hit her.

We sit in our house watching from the window, wanting to reach out and save her; she can hear our voice, see our tears. We can hear a car in the distance, but never know how far away it is. We know at any moment that car may come and change our world all over again. "

That is it. That's basically what it feels like. I don't mean it to be depressing, but it is the first time that I have found in words what it is like to be wondering and waiting. The problem is that for Kelby...the statistics don't say a car "may" come, but a car "will" come. We just don't know when.

Yikes, that is a depressing post. Sorry about that. I am actually doing quite well and am happy this is the last week of school. The walk-a-thon is tomorrow and I'm happy it is almost over too! It is almost time to start some fun activities! Yeah!"
