Takin’ a Breather?!

This weekend/week has been going, going, non-stop…let alone the week before that!

Last Monday, June 1st, was Anika’s last day of preschool. She has now “graduated” on to kindergarten.

IMG_5080Kelby had an appointment down at Childrens on Wednesday for a regular checkup. It was a boring appointment, nothing noted. She also had a bone density scan. I’m not even really sure what they were looking for, but I think it was checking if there were any effects from her previous treatment on her bones. Her results were sent to me and came back normal!

Tegan was on a fieldtrip that day at a garden/green house. It is part of an extension of Washington State University. They looked at plants and did some exploring/experimenting.

That evening we went to Zach and Melissa’s house for potluck BBQ. Mike’s Aunt and cousins were up from California and Oregon.  The kids had a great time meeting some new cousins (I believe they are second cousins..Mike’s cousin’s kids). They cooled off from the heat by  jumping on a wet trampoline!

On Thursday morning Kelby had her fieldtrip. She got to go to the roller skating rink. The class met their pen pals from a different school there. I was sad I couldn’t make it.

That afternoon we picked up the girls from school early and we met the family for a grave-side service for Great Grandpa Chester. It was a wonderful memorial. All the cousins were there and the pastor shared on a level that the kids could all understand. Afterwards we went to Debbie and George’s house for a family gathering. Everyone on the Wright side of the family was there. They played out on the Slip ‘n Slide with their new cousin friends from out-of-town.

DSC_3071 8x10 IMG_5099On Friday night, Kelby, Tegan and I were off to Camp Kirby for our Sedro-Woolley Service Unit Encampment. That was the first time they got to sleep away at a camp. I hadn’t been planning to stay overnight with the girls, but our leader couldn’t make it the first night because her husband was having a surgery. I stayed the first night, then went to the ladies’ church breakfast the next morning. I had so much fun at camp the night before that I asked Mike if I could stay again. I got to teach the scouts how to make friendship bracelets and how to weave a little coin purse on Sunday.

The camp is on the beach, so the girls got to enjoy beach time along with crafts, wall climbing, archery, outdoor skills, and cabin sleeping. They seemed to have a great time even though their mom embarrasses them. I was being a little silly and doing a little dance when a girl from our troop came up to me and whispered in my ear “Hey Shawna, you are embarrassing your kids.” So I asked Kelby and Tegan, but they were proud to have a crazy mom and didn’t mind at all.

IMG_5140 IMG_5145 IMG_5147 IMG_5186I thought I’d be able to take a breather at the beginning of this week, but that didn’t really happened and I don’t even know where it has already gone! This blog post has taken all week to write as well.

On Tuesday we heard some more sad news. Michael’s grandma passed away early that morning. She had been struggling for a long time. This was Michael’s mom’s mom, Carolyn. His grandpa that past away last month was his dad’s dad. This has been a hard few months for Debbie and George as they have been caretakers for their parents, lovingly serving them as best they could. It is hard to see them suffer these loses so close together. We hope they can rest now and mend in the future months.

There are only three and a half days of school left now. I’m sure we’ll be keeping very busy. The weather has been beautiful and we’ve gone something like 26 straight days with no measurable rain! Only a few more days and that will be a record for the North West in the spring. I gave in and put up the little blue pool in the backyard. It has already gotten a ton of use! You know I have three little fish, right!?
